Education/Certification & Requirements:

Certification in Lifeguard Training required. CPR/First Aid required. Certification accepted from American Red Cross or Ellis & Associates. Swim lesson instruction and water exercise instruction are strongly preferred. Keep all necessary certifications current

to perform Lifeguard Duties.

Scope of Position: The Aquatics Specialist 2-Lifeguard will be responsible for maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the aquatic facility.

Knowledge, skills and Abilities Required:

Skills:

• General: Effective verbal and written communication, ability to multi-task, ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a safe and effective manner. Must be able to adhere to safe aquatic practices, deal comfortable with stressful situations, and

follow emergency procedures.

• Professional: The person in this position must have the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. They must be able to work with people of diverse backgrounds

and circumstances. Must be able to exercise good judgment and be comfortable taking initiative with projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide life-guarding services. Respond to emergency situations and if necessary administer CPR/First Aid. Prepare and submit accident/incident reports.

• Provide excellent internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for patrons through professional and courteous behavior.

• Participate in in-service training, orientations and other staff meetings as requested.

• Perform general housekeeping duties in and around the natatorium, i.e. hosing, vacuuming, picking up litter, etc.

• Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, co-workers and the general public.

• Complete applicable reports and records.

• Ability to work effectively as a team player.

• Assume a schedule of flexible working hours, including weekends and evenings.

• Regular and punctual attendance is an essential job requirement.

• Maintain a neat, professional appearance.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted on a regular basis.

• Must be able to be in a chlorinated environment for a long period of time.

• While being in a chlorinated environment you may experience breathing issues, irritation of the eyes and skin.

• If you are sensitive to these issues, you are encouraged to wear goggles when needed in training, except for Emergency Action Plan (EAP).

• Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminished performance.

• Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist body, stand for short/long periods of time, kneel push, pull, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, climb stairs, close vision, distance vision, smell, talk, hear, have eye-hand coordination,

have manual dexterity, speak and read English and work in noisy areas

• Must be physically able to give emergency care if a situation arises.

• 300 yard continuous swim

• Rescue a victim from the depth of 13 feet.

• 2 minute water tread without hands

• 1:40 minute brick retrieval.

Equipment Used:

The following equipment is used on either a daily, weekly or monthly basis: janitorial supplies, hoses, computer/fax/copy machines, aquatic safety equipment and other pool equipment such as lane lines, and pool lifts.

This position has access to confidential and private information. It is essential that confidentiality and privacy be observed.

Miscellaneous:

It is expected that each employee will be familiar with The Salvation Army Western Territorial Handbook for Employees. Questions regarding its contents can be directed toward the Human Resource Coordinator or Immediate Supervisor.

If you are not Red Cross certified we will train and certify you within the first 60 days of your employment.
